Home at Last represents the culmination of an era in my life. I unstretched paintings from the Persephone series and stitched them together on a sewing machine with the addition of strips of plastic mesh fencing. Then I wove yarn into the mesh and flowed it into the paintings. A fringe of shredded fabric and yarn at the bottom represents water but also roots. This is a new phase of the sinking house imagery: instead of flooding, the water is simply nourishing rootedness and growth. The pomegranate paintings represented difficult and angry emotions. By reworking them with stitching and pieces of found crochet, I have softened their energy and created a safe and symbolic home for them, bringing a new type of closure to the series.
