El Camino Silk Mural
El Camino Real Silk Murals
Since our school is named El Camino Real, I talked with students about what Camino Real means in their lives. As many of their families travel regularly back to Mexico to visit family, they realized that I-25 is the current day Camino Real. They designed all the aspects of this mural to represent their experiences in the US and Mexico and Central American countries. They learned about mural art from Israel Haros Lopez, and how to do silk painting from Andrea Vargas Mendoza, who also helped with mural design and transfer to the fabric. The mural is now installed in the entry to the school.
